Culture and sights

  • The location is characterized by the large four - sided half - timbered courtyards that are common in the region .
Typical four-sided courtyard
  • The stone church of St. Marien was built around 1200 and has a floating angel as a special feature. In 1912 the Neulingen church burned down and was badly damaged, especially in the tower. The fire was created by a burning candle that was left behind after the bells had rung. In 1998 the church got a new top, and later a new roof. There has been a Rühlmann organ in the church since 1914, which was restored in May 2011 thanks to the association “De Dämpstroat - Association for the Preservation of Village Cultural Property” and donations from the church.

  • Another attraction in Neulingen are the natural weather stations, so-called "dead liver". They get wet a few days before it rains. A pond was created from such a “dead liver”, which the inhabitants called a “carp pond”.

Association "De D Körperstroat eV"

The idea of preserving the four-sided farms and other cultural assets, mainly from agriculture, began in 2005. In February 2006 the ideas took shape and a name was looked for. “De Dervorstroat” is Altmärker-Platt and means: The village street. Behind this is the idea that in Neulingen, a village that has only one street, village life takes place on this street. The addition “Association for the Preservation of Village Cultural Property” explains the goals of the association. The main event of the association and thus also of the whole village is the annual "Potato Day". On a Saturday in August it is shown how potatoes were harvested in the past and today (that is, both with horses and with large tractors).
