Revelation 23 is a radio play series and a novel (audio book) series that fictionally takes up various conspiracy theories with set pieces of reality. The radio plays were created between 2005 and 2010 in cooperation between Lübbe-Audio and LPL Records ; since 2012 they have been produced and distributed by Highscore Music .

The title is a play on words with reference to a text of the New Testament , the "Secret Revelation" of the Apostle John , in which the Apocalypse is announced and described in 22 chapters .

In Bastion-Luebbe publishing the novels appeared in the form of thrillers under the author's pseudonym January Gaspard were published. The audio book for the first novel Machiavelli (as abridged readings by Till Hagen ) was published by Lübbe-Audio.

content

Series of radio plays 1–29

The main character of the radio play series is the Berlin student and hacker "Georg Brand" alias "T-Rex", who searches for and decrypts ciphers around conspiracy theories that were allegedly left behind by a hacker who died in 1998 and who bears the name of the real hacker " Tron ".

Radio play series episodes 30–41

With episode 30 there was a break: The previous ongoing plot was suspended and all protagonists were replaced by new characters . Lars Peter Lueg , who produced the earlier episodes, has been responsible for the conception and history of the individual episodes since then . With the 41st episode (The Crown Witness), the radio play series came to an end for the time being in May 2010.

Radio play series, episodes 42–57

In September 2011, Highscore Music announced that it had acquired the rights to the series and that it would be producing new radio plays from 2012. The new episodes are written by former author Jan Gaspard. In an interview, Gaspard announced that the series will continue with a slightly different Georg Brand and other changes in the characters.

In March 2012 it was announced that the former main actors David Nathan ( Georg Brand / T-Rex ) and Dietmar Wunder ( Kim Schmittke ) are no longer available for the new episodes. According to Highscore Music, the two voice actors have no time, and they no longer feel their voices are young enough for the role as students.

A year after the announcement, the first two new episodes were released in September 2012.

Radio play series from episode 58

With the radio play episode 57 ("The Metatron"), Jan Gaspard's framework story was told to the end. At his own request, he then left the series as an author. Since episode 58 (“Aids”) the manuscripts have been written by the author Catherine Fibonacci. In addition, the radio plays are now published by Maritim-Verlag, acquired by Highscore Music in 2015, and are again distributed by Lübbe Audio and Tonpool.

The first new episodes appeared in autumn 2015.

Special consequences of the corona pandemic

In 2020, special episodes on the subject of "corona pandemic" were published. The spokesman for "Georg Brant" alias "T-Rex" speaks this largely alone and refers to supporting actors, such as. B. Mails from Nolo.

Novel and audio book

In the accompanying novel / audio book series, the protagonist “Parish”, traced to the rapper Tupac, takes on this function - in the narrative level of the radio plays, however, at a different time. The fictional character of the author Jan Gaspard (also "Ian G."), who also acts as a follower of a mystery cult ( Mithras ) as the initiator of the world ages, forms the link between the two narrative levels of the series / series .

history

Controversial use of the name "Tron"

In the radio play series, the name of the late hacker Tron is used, although the content of the series has little reference to the actual life and work of Tron. This led to violent protests from Tron's parents as well as well-known representatives of the hacker scene. Andy Müller-Maguhn later stated in an interview that this undesired use was the trigger for the action against the naming in Wikipedia, since the author Gaspard justified himself with the naming in Wikipedia. The parents had no success in their legal dispute with Wikipedia. The full name is not mentioned in the radio play series, which is why there was no legal dispute here. Against the first novel, in which the full name was in the first editions, no action was taken either.

Change of authors

In October 2008 the production team LPL-Records and the previous author Jan Gaspard parted ways. Exact reasons why this happened have not been disclosed. After that, the series continued with a new team of authors and a new story arc. However, the cast of the speakers did not change. In September 2012, the eleventh season appeared, in which Jan Gaspard again served as an author.

With episode 58, Gaspard left the series as an author at his own request. Since then, the radio plays have been written by the author Catherine Fibonacci.
