August 20, 2008 , 10:35 p.m.

At these games, a new generation of 400-meter hurdlers followed in the footsteps of their predecessors. The three medal winners of the 2004 Games , the three winners of the World Championships in 2005 , and the World Champion and Vice World Champion of 2007 were no longer among the participants. That also applied to the current world record holder .
The favorites were the strong Jamaicans - here especially Melaine Walker, and US-Americans - among them primarily Sheena Tosta, who won the Olympic Games in 2004, and the 2007 World Cup seventh, Tiffany Ross-Williams. The Polish woman Anna Jesień was as WM -Third of 2007 World Cup -Vierte 2005 and EM -Sechste 2006 counted just like the Russian Olympic Sixth 2004 Jekaterina Bikert to the medal candidates.

There was a very fast Olympic final in that competition. The runners bravely tackled the race at high speed. At the end of the target curve, Tosta and Walker were almost on a par. Danvers followed at a considerable distance, who in turn had a few meters ahead of the other competitors. On the home straight, the Jamaican showed great stamina. She broke away from Tosta and increased her lead more and more. Melaine Walker became Olympic champion and set a new Olympic record with 52.64 seconds . Tosta slacked off significantly in the last few meters, but was able to defend her second place. Sheena Tosta won the silver medal more than a second behind. Fourteen hundredths of a second behind her, Tasha Danvers crossed the finish line as a bronze medalist. The Ukrainian Anastassija Rabtschenjuk came fourth ahead of Anna Jesień and Jekaterina Bikert. The seventh and eighth place went to Zuzana Hejnová from the Czech Republic and Tiffany Ross-Williams.

Melaine Walker won this Olympic discipline since 1984, the second gold medal for Jamaica after Deon Hemmings , which had been successful in Atlanta in 1996 .
