With its participation in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Cyprus wasrepresented for the eighth time at the Summer Olympics. The first participation was in 1980. 17 athletes competed in five different sports. Tennis player Marcos Baghdatis injured his wrist just before the games and was unable to participate. The flag bearer for the opening ceremony was George Achilleus.
