Rainer Maria Jilg (born November 17, 1978 in Augsburg ) is a German television presenter. He works for RTL , ZDFkultur , 3sat and Bavarian television . Before that, he worked for SWR television for eight years . He was the host of the talent show Rising Star .

Life

Rainer Jilg grew up in Gersthofen near Augsburg (Bavaria). During and after attending the musical high school at St. Stephan , he was a guest student at the Leopold Mozart Conservatory in Augsburg. Jilg played with the saxophone in various bands and orchestras. a. the Army Music Corps 10 in Ulm during his basic military service. He plays alto and baritone saxophone, piano and had singing and conducting lessons.

Meanwhile, Jilg also worked as a reporter for local radio RT.1 in Augsburg.

Jilg gained his first experience in moderation during his studies in Offenburg and Perth (Australia) at MTV and VIVA . He is a graduate engineer (FH) for media. Before he took over the moderation of Dasding .tv in SWR , he already worked as an author and reporter for the show and as a moderator and producer on the Dasding radio program .

He moderated the weekly program Dasding.tv together with Domenica Berger from January 2005 to September 2008 and continued it alone from 2008 to August 2010. For the show, he conducted more than 200 interviews with national and international artists, including a. with Oasis , Akon , Lady Gaga , Katy Perry , Kiss , Kid Rock and many more.

As a reporter he has reported on events such as the Fujirock Festival (Japan), Iceland Airwaves (Iceland), Benicassim (Spain), Rock am Ring (2004–2010), Southside Festival (2004–2010). In 2011 he was on the Eurosonic Noorderslag (Netherlands) for the 3sat Kulturzeit program . For ZDFkultur, Jilg hosted the SXSW in Austin (2011/2012), the Hurricane Festival (2012), the Glastonbury Festival (2011), the Splash! Festival (2011/2012/2013), the Melt ! Festival (2013), the Wacken Open Air (2011/2012), the Chiemsee Reggae Summer (2012), at Omas Teich in Ostfriesland (2012) and at the first Rock'n'Heim (2013).

Since 2006, Rainer Maria Jilg has reported annually for SWR and 3sat from the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival , the Stuttgart International Animated Film Festival and the Baden-Baden TV Film Festival.

In the summer of 2009 Jilg presented the more than 20-hour live reporting of the SWR3 New Pop Festival on the ARD digital channel EinsPlus . In 2010 he worked as a reporter for the same show.

In 2012, ZDFkultur and 3sat showed the three-part documentary “Die Nun und Herr Jilg”. Together with the Catholic sister Jordana Schmidt , Jilg drove in a car from Istanbul to Jerusalem . The journey took her from Turkey via Lebanon to Israel and Palestine . In addition to the television report, Sister Jordana wrote the book "Auf eine Tee in der Desert", which was on the Spiegel bestseller list for several weeks in 2013 .

In May 2013 Jilg and ZDFkultur colleague Nina Sonnenberg were a reporter on the first Full Metal Cruise . On the cruise ship " Mein Schiff 1 " he interviewed a. a. the bands Sepultura , Avantasia , GammaRay , Saxon , Eric Fish and Sabaton . The 75-minute documentary was first broadcast on June 8, 2013 on ZDFkultur.

In July 2013, ZDFkultur and 3sat showed the two-part documentary "BLUganda - Ein Afrikatrip", in which Jilg is accompanied as he travels to Uganda with rapper Marteria , rapper Maeckes from the group Die Orsons and others . There they visited villages that had access to clean drinking water through the charity organization Viva con Agua . In addition, a concert was organized in the Goethe Center in Kampala with Ugandan musicians and a joint song was recorded. This was published in Germany in May under the name "BLUE UGANDA" and reached number 66 in the charts. This was preceded by a trip by Jilg in a rubber dinghy over the audience of Marteria's concert at the Splash! Festival 2012. He collected deposit cups for Viva con Agua. In 2013, the two repeated this action in front of the same stage.

From March 2014 to April 2016, Rainer Maria Jilg presented reports on Bavarian television every Monday at 8:15 p.m. There he met people on a current topic, such as B. Hospital germs, Syria refugees or police violence.

In August 2014, Jilg hosted the international show " Rising Star ", which was broadcast on RTL every Thursday and Saturday at 8:15 pm .

Since 2016 he has hosted the program Planet Wissen together with Caro Matzko on ARD-alpha .
