Rosenrot is the fifth studio album by the German band Rammstein . It was published in Germany on October 28, 2005 and was published in a total of 38 countries within three weeks.

background

The album contains a total of eleven songs: six songs that were originally written for the previous album Reise, Reise (including “Rosenrot” and “Where are you?”), But which then had no place on the album, and five new songs. At first it was said that the album should be called Reise, Reise Vol. 2 , but on August 18, 2005 the name Rosenrot was announced.

Rammstein fans got a first impression of the new album at the band's open-air concerts in Berlin's Wuhlheide between June 23 and June 26, 2005, when the song "Petrol" was presented for the first time. This and five other songs could be heard as one-minute audio samples eight days before publication on the Internet.

An otherwise usual tour in the industry after the album was released did not take place.

To this day, Rosenrot is the Rammstein album with most of the pieces that have never been played live.

Cover

The cover - artwork has been changed slightly from the Japanese version of the album "Reise, Reise" assumed that was used there because the Japanese distributors were of the opinion that a flight recorder would not work on the cover. Rammstein found the cover too beautiful to only be used in Japan. They themselves said that it is also a good connection with travel, travel .

The ship on the cover is the US icebreaker USS Atka (AGB-3) or USCGC Southwind (WAGB-280). The photo used as the basis for the cover was taken on March 13, 1960 at McMurdo Station in Antarctica .

Information about the songs

petrol

The song was played in Berlin's Wuhlheide on June 23, 2005, long before the album was released. In an interview with the French newspaper RockMag, Lindemann said: “Actually one day I saw a film called Love Liza . It's the story of a guy who loses his wife and job and slowly becomes addicted to gasoline. He goes to gas stations and smells the gas pump. It's a kind of tragic comedy . Many films have been made about addicts, but never about petrol sniffers. I think that was the starting point of this song. ”Because Christian Lorenz fell ill, he was doubled in the music video (director: Uwe Flade ).

In the chorus you can find references to mad cow disease of the same name.

head to head

The working title for this song was "Schwuhla". It already existed at the time of the album Mutter. The video of Mann gegen Mann, which was released in early February 2006, initially ran normally on television. After more than a month, however, it was only released by the FSK from 16 and can only be shown on German television between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Rose red

Among other things, “Rosenrot” deals with the self-flagellation of monks in the video . The song itself is an adaptation of Goethe's “ Heidenröslein ” and the fairy tale “ Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot ”.

The riffs of "Rosenrot" are very similar to the riffs of "Stein um Stein". This is because both songs were produced during the recording session for “ Reise, Reise ”. "Stein um Stein" was then called "Rosenrot 60" (a reference to the tempo of the song, which is 60  bpm ; today's "Rosenrot" has a tempo of 57 bpm) and today's "Rosenrot" had the working title "Rosenrot NY" . In addition, an identical vocal sample is used in both songs .

Jump

This song is about the lyric self, along with other people, watching a man who intended to visit a lookout point. The group of people think he is a suicide and urge him to jump. After the man tries in vain to leave the bridge against the will of the crowd, the lyrical I sneaks up to the man and pushes him down. Quote:

The man wants to get off the bridge
The people start to hate
Form a dense dance
And don't want to let him down
So he climbs up again
And the mob starts to rage
They want his innards
And scream ...

Where are you?

"Where are you?" Is a rather harsh ballad in contrast to "Don't Die Before I Do". The song begins with a clarinet, followed by drums, electric guitar and electric bass. Similar to “Du Hast” from the album “ Sehnsucht ”, a sentence is put together at the beginning of the song, which means that several interpretations are possible.

Don't Die Before I Do

The idea for this experimental duet came from producer Jacob Hellner. It was also his idea to record the duet with Sharleen Spiteri . This song lacks the hard guitar riffs and the deep, pressed vocals of Till Lindemann.

To destroy

The song was previously called " Ankara " and has a connection to the Iraq war. At the beginning of the song, Devrim Kaya sings an excerpt from the Turkish song Huma Kusu, a novelty for Rammstein.

Christian “Flake” Lorenz told a daily newspaper the following about the song “Destroy”: “ This is our country song about George W. Bush and we mean it completely seriously. He behaves in the world like a child who wants to destroy everything. But he only attacks other people's things! "

help me

The model for the text of this song was Struwwelpeter (“The very sad story with the lighter”), from which lines of text were partly taken directly.

Te quiero puta!

“Te quiero puta!” Is Rammstein's first Spanish song. The title translates as: “I love you, whore.” (Literally: “I want you, whore.”). The working title was "I am". This song is supposed to be a present to the Mexican Rammstein fans because the predecessor of Rosenrot, Reise, Reise , rose to number one in the charts in Mexico. In this way, Rammstein want to thank their Mexican fans. At the beginning of the song you can hear the soft clatter of horse's hooves and the word "¡Amigos!" Typical Mexican trumpets play in the song.

fire and water

“Fire and water” is said to have been inspired by the poem Der Taucher by Friedrich Schiller .

The title itself rises from the gentle, almost fragile beginning, which makes up about the first third of the song, to two additional, voluminous thirds including electric guitar, electric bass and drums. The first verse and the first chorus of the song are only accompanied by an acoustic guitar and a computer-generated beat.

A song

A song should be a gift to all Rammstein fans. In addition to Roter Sand von Liebe is there for everyone and Diamant from the Rammstein album, it is one of the few pieces that are not accompanied by drums. Furthermore, neither electric guitars nor electric bass were used in the entire song, making it a purely acoustic piece. Till Lindemann's vocals are only accompanied by an acoustic guitar and subtle keyboard applications.
