Sabahudin Kovačevič (born February 26, 1986 in Jesenice , SR Slovenia ) is a Slovenian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Energie Karlovy Vary since November 2017 and has played with the club in the Czech Extraliga since 2018 .
Career
Sabahudin Kovačevič started his career in his hometown at HK Jesenice. From the 2002/03 season, the defender played for the club's U20 team and was also used for the first time for HK Kranjska Gora in the Slovenian ice hockey league, the country's top division. There he was able to continuously increase the number of his missions in the following three years and established himself in the league. From 2005 he received a contract for the first team at his home club in Jesenice. Until 2010 he was active for the club in both the Austrian ice hockey league and the Slovenian ice hockey league. In the latter, he won a total of four championship titles with the team that is eligible to start in the Slovenian play-offs after being eliminated from the ÖEHL . For the 2010/11 season, Kovacevic initially signed a contract with the reigning Italian champions Asiago Hockey , but moved to HC Alleghe after only 13 games in the A1 series .
For the 2011/12 season Kovačevič signed a one-year contract with the Danish first division club Herning Blue Fox . However, he left this in November 2011 and joined HK Poprad from the Slovak extra league . For the 2013/14 season he moved to the Kazakh club HK Saryarka Karaganda in the Wysschaja Hockey League , which he was able to win with the team right away. In the summer of 2014 he moved to HK Kuban Krasnodar within the league . In December 2014 he returned to Karaganda for four games before moving to EC Graz 99ers in January 2015 , for which he played in the Austrian ice hockey league until 2016. After a year at HK Junost Minsk in the Belarusian extra league, he returned to Slovakia, where he now played for HC Nové Zámky . However, he left the club again in November 2017 and joined HC Energie Karlovy Vary from the Czech 1st division , the country's second-highest division. With the team from Karlovy Vary, he was promoted to the extra league in 2018 .
International
Kovačevič represented his home country in various tournaments as a youth player. In the junior division, he took part in the 2004 U18 World Junior Championships and the 2005 and 2006 U20 World Junior Championships in Division I.
He then belonged to the squad of the men's national team , but initially missed a few tournaments due to injuries. At the 2009 , 2010 , 2012 , 2016 World Championships , when he was elected to the tournament's All-Star Team, and in 2018 , when he was reappointed to the All-Star Team, he was in Division I In the top division he played for Slovenia in 2011 , 2013 , 2015 and 2017 . He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the 2010 , 2014 and 2018 Olympic Winter Games , as well as at the 2014 Games in Sochi , where the Slovenes took a surprising seventh place, and in Pyeongchang in 2018 , when his team finished ninth.
