Parish name

St. Pantaleon: In 1423 the first documentary evidence of settlement can be found with Sant Pentlian. Another source names the place in 1458 Sand Pantholeen. The term is derived from the patron saint of the church built here, St. Pantaleon.

Erla: The name is originally a water body name meaning "by the river whose bank is overgrown with alders". The place is mentioned for the first time in the years 1090/1104 as "de Herlaha".

history

In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province . In the district of Albing are the remains of a Roman legionary camp from the late 2nd century; in the district of Stein, the walls of a cohort fort from the 1st century were found in 2017 . In the district of Ziegelfeld, a Roman brick kiln was excavated in the 1960s. Ancient bricks were found on the Erla in earlier years. The field name, "Ziegelfeld", goes back to these finds. From 1200 to 1400 St. Pantaleon was called Zwieselkirchen and was the seat of a lordship, while Erla had been the seat of a Benedictine monastery from the 12th century, which was dissolved in 1583.

On January 1, 1971, the two political communities of St. Pantaleon and Erla, which were established in 1850, voluntarily merged to form the community of “St. Pantaleon Erla "".
