Frankenmarkt is a market town in Upper Austria in the Vöcklabruck district in the Hausruckviertel with 3690 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The community is located in the judicial district of Vöcklabruck .

geography

Frankenmarkt is 536 m above sea level in the Hausruckviertel. The extension is 5.8 km from north to south and 5.2 km from west to east. The total area is 18.4 km², 31.5% of the area is forested, 58.7% of the area is used for agriculture.

history

In 487 the Romans leave. The Bavarians then settled again from 500 to 700.

Today's Frankenmarkt did not emerge until 1160 from what was then Habbingen, but the origin of the place is much older. In 1236 Frankenmarkt was granted market rights by Emperor Friedrich II and in 1289 it fell to the Schaumburgs. In 1351 the Habsburgs bought the Frankenburg dominion. In 1578 Stauff was elevated to a noble seat by Emperor Rudolf II . For a short time, between 1810 and 1816, Frankenmarkt belonged to Bavaria . In 1848 the community of Frankenmarkt was founded.

Official description of the Frankenmarkt municipal coat of arms: “Divided by a lowered, silver bar; above three silver heraldic lilies set 1: 2 in blue; green below. ”From a medieval mythological point of view, the lilies were also assigned to the Franks as a coat of arms. In the 11th century the place was opened up by the Bamberg bishops through Frankish settlers, hence the lilies. The silver ribbon symbolizes the Vöckla. The coat of arms was awarded in 1976.

The municipality colors of Frankenmarkt are blue-white-green.

Official weather station

Since October 2003, the market town of Frankenmarkt has been operating the first weather station of the Austrian broadcasting company Ö3 with the WMO ID 11352 at an altitude of 571  m above sea level. A. The amateur radio relay station Frankenmarkt Upper Austria Messstelle Pointen (ADL503) is also operated there. The data from the weather station are transmitted via the Internet and also via amateur radio.
