history

The Einödmühle appears in 1495 as "Steffelsmühl", named after the miller Hans Steffel at the time. The property consisted of the mill house, a barn, a pigsty and two “courtyard houses”.

The mill belonged to the von Stein family . From 1505 it was under high court the Palatinate-Neuburg Office Hilpoltstein. From 1542 this was pledged to the imperial city of Nuremberg for 36 years . In the commercial registry that Nuremberg had created in 1544, it is said of the "Steffansmühl" that it has two corridors and that it belongs to the Imhoff patrician family of Nuremberg, which also exercised the lower jurisdiction. The description of the Hilpoltstein office from 1604 also mentions the “Steffansmuhl”.

In 1625 the mill passed to Raymund Imhoff. A small castle was built under a later Imhoff, probably Johann Christoph von Imhoff (1659–1736). In 1754 the Nuremberg patrician family Haller von Hallerstein took over the property (1762, 1791: Christoph Joachim Haller von Hallerstein). In addition to the milling operation, there was a saw and an agricultural operation; the tenants changed frequently.

Towards the end of the Old Kingdom, the mill was subject to the now curb-Bavarian care office of Hilpoltstein. In 1806 the mill with the Hilpoltstein office was incorporated into the new Kingdom of Bavaria and became part of the tax district and the municipality of Heuberg . On February 9, 1822, the Stephansmühle, together with the Knabenmühle , Lösmühle and Seitzenmühle, were added to the municipality of Hilpoltstein

In 1818 three families lived in Stephansmühle and in 1829 two families. In 1832 it is reported that the property consists of the mill and two houses and that the mill has a grinder. The residents belonged to the Protestant parish of Eckersmühlen. In the course of the 19th century, the castle in the mill property fell into disrepair. In 1859 the miller's name was Stephan Dauses; he was publicly praised "in the name of His Majesty the King", as with his support in July of the year in question two fires in the state forest were quickly extinguished. In 1873 two horses and nine cattle were kept on the property.

Milling was given up before the Second World War under the last Müller Pfahler and the property was sold. Today the property is a riding stable; Horse breeding and equestrian sports are carried out and tournaments are held here. In 2017 the property was expanded to include a horse clinic.
