SIG Strasbourg or just "la SIG ", until 2016 Strasbourg Illkirch-Graffenstaden Basket or Strasbourg IG , is a French basketball club from Strasbourg . The club won the French championship in 2005 .

history

The club was founded in 1928 under the name Sportive Illkirch-Graffenstaden , with the basketball department being formed a year later. In 1938 they first played in the first division. Various descents and ascents followed. The club initially had no sporting successes. In the 1990s they were mostly second-rate until the club became champions of the LNB Pro B in 1999 and rose. In the same year, as in 1994, the team won the French Cup. The establishment in the upper house followed. If they reached the play-off semi-finals at the beginning, the club won its first championship in 2005. Strasbourg could not reach this level afterwards and played an average role in the LNB Pro A for a long time before they were runner-up behind JSF Nanterre in the 2012/13 season . Between 2013 and 2017, the club was runner-up five times in a row.

At the European level, the team reached the quarter-finals of the ULEB Cup once . In the 2005/06 Euroleague season , for which they qualified as champions in 2005, they were eliminated in seventh place in the first group stage. In 2013/14, Strasbourg IG took part in the Euroleague for the second time.

Hall

The club plays its home games in Rhenus Sport, which has 6,200 seats .
