Team RadioShack was an American cycling team sponsored by RadioShack . It took part in the most important cycling races in 2010 and 2011 as the UCI ProTeam and then merged with the Luxembourgish Leopard-Trek team to form the RadioShack-Nissan team . The previous operator, Capital Sports and Entertainment , withdrew from the management of the team at the same time.
founding
The team was founded in 2009 by Lance Armstrong after he split from Astana . With the exception of the Tour winner from 2009, Alberto Contador , all drivers of the Tour line-up from Astana (Klöden, Zubeldia, Leipheimer, Murawjow, Paulinho, Popowytsch, Rast) and four other Astana drivers (Brajkovič, Horner, Rubiera) changed alongside Armstrong , Vaitkus) to RadioShack. The team operator was Capital Sports and Entertainment , which also manages the Trek Livestrong U23 farm team .
The team received a ProTeam license from the International Cycling Federation UCI in 2010 until 2013 and thus the right to participate in the most important cycling races.
The team supported the Lance Armstrong Foundation's Livestrong campaign . The team also sponsored Trek Bicycle Corporation , SRAM Corporation and Nike .
Lance Armstrong's longtime companion Johan Bruyneel acted as team manager .
fusion
On September 5, 2011, the merger of Team RadioShack with the Luxembourg team Leopard-Trek was confirmed for the following season. The newly formed team was named RadioShack-Nissan . The team structures and the license remained in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg . Much of the Team RadioShack team has been taken over, as has Johan Bruyneel as team manager. While the previous operator of the team, Capital Sports and Entertainment , withdrew from the organization, the sponsors continued their support after the merger.
