The Verhoeven Open 2013 for women was a carom tournament in the three cushion discipline and took place from July 17th to 21st in New York , USA .

history

In 2013, the tournament was organized for the first time as an independent tournament for women. The beginnings go back to 2002. Back then, the widow of the top American player of Korean origin, Sang Chun Lee , hosted the Sang Lee International Open in his honor . This tournament was only played until 2008, but saw its rebirth in 2012 under the name Verhoeven Open Tournament .

mode

Only one main round was played in which all players had to compete against each other ( round robin mode ). The game was played on 25 points without a kick .

Participating Nations

Only five nations take part: (number of players)

Tournament commentary

Not only the reigning world champion from Japan, Natsumi Higashiuchi and the world number one Therese Klompenhouwer from the Netherlands were invited , but also the four-time world champion Orie Hida , also from Japan. She was accompanied by her mother, Kazumi, who is one of the top players in Japan. Klompenhouwer's long-term rival from her own country, Karina Jetten was also part of the game, but fell short of her possibilities. Just like the Austrian Helga Mitterböck, multiple national champion. The only Korean woman in the field, Su-Ah Park, took third place.

Klompenhouwer was so superior to the field of participants that she did not lose any of her games and set tournament records in the general average (GD) and for the best series (HS). Only the record for the best individual average (BED) went to former world champion Orte Hida.

After this tournament she played with the men and was able to assert herself in the upper third of the 64-strong field of participants. Klompenhouwer had even topped the BED's top 10 list with 2,500 (25 points in 10 shots) and was still in third place at the end of the qualification, only Roland Forthomme (6,250), Eddy Leppens and Daniel Reyes (both 3,125) better than she.
