Vladimir Vladimirovich Yursinov ( Russian Владимир Владимирович Юрзинов ; born February 20, 1940 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player and national player of the Soviet national ice hockey team . After the end of his career he worked as a trainer. His son Vladimir is also an ice hockey coach.

Career

As a player in HK Dynamo Moscow , Jursinow began his career in the 1957/58 season. He played here until 1973, when he switched to KooVee Tampere in the Finnish SM-liiga . There he ended his playing career in 1974 and turned to work as an ice hockey coach. As a player, he won the ice hockey world championship twice with the Soviet national ice hockey team ( 1963 and 1969 ). In 1963 he was named the Honored Master of Sports of the USSR .

As a coach he was extremely successful. As an assistant coach of the Russian national team, he became world champion seven times, Olympic champion three times and Canada Cup winner once. At club level, he won the Soviet Championship three times during his time with Dynamo Moscow (1974 to 1979 and 1989 to 1992) , and twice he was Finnish champion with TPS Turku (1993 and 1995). In addition, he won the European Cup with them in 1993/94 and the Euro League and the Supercup in 1996/97 . In the seasons 1992/93, 1993/94 and 1994/95 he received the Kalevi Numminen trophy as the best coach of the SM-liiga. In 1998/99 he was coach of the Kloten Flyers until he was replaced by Anders Eldebrink in October 2004 . Until the end of the current season, he looked after the youngsters of the Flyers.

In 2005 he took over the trainer position at Lokomotiv Yaroslavl . After a poor start to the 2006 season, he was released here in September.

In 2002 he was honored with the IIHF Hall of Fame for his services . His shirt number 17 was banned from Dynamo Moscow in his honor. Due to his success with TPS Turku, he was inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009 .
