Zhang Liang (rower)

Zhang Liang ( Chinese  张亮 ; born January 14, 1987 in Anshan , Liaoning ) is a Chinese rower .

Athletic career

Zhang Liang's international career began in 2007 in the single , at the 2007 World Championships he finished 16th. At the 2008 Olympics , he was registered for both single and double sculls. For one, he did not take part and from the double scull competition, in which he should compete with Su Hui , he was excluded after his failure to take part in the one.

Zhang Liang competed internationally again in 2010 and reached fifth place in the single at the 2010 World Championships . In the year he finished tenth at the World Championships in Bled . In 2012 he actually competed in the Olympic regatta in Eton and finished eleventh.

In 2014, Zhang Liang and Dai Jun rowed to eleventh place in the double scull at the World Championships in Amsterdam . After a less than successful 2015, Zhang Liang tried to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in a double scull. In the last qualifying regatta in 2016 in Lucerne, the Chinese double scull took fifth place, only the two best boats qualified for the Olympic regatta; the later disqualification of the Russian double foursome changed nothing for the Chinese.

In 2017, the Chinese quadruple finished 13th at the World Championships in Sarasota . In 2018 Zhang Liang competed in the World Cup in single and eighth , he did not take part in the World Championships. In 2019 Liu Zhiyu and Zhang Liang competed in double sculls and won the World Cup opener in Plovdiv. After a seventh and a twelfth place in the two other World Cup regattas, the Chinese won the title at the World Championships in Linz-Ottensheim .
