The Cup of the Austrian Football Association was played for the 55th time in the 1988/89 season.
The final was played back and forth. The cup winner was FC Swarovski Tirol with an overall result of 6: 4 goals . The FC Admira / Wacker sat down in the first game before 8,000 spectators at the federal Stadium Südstadt in Maria Enzersdorf against FC Swarovski Tirol with 2: 0 by. FC Swarovski Tirol won the second leg in front of 17,000 spectators in Innsbruck's Tivoli Stadium against FC Admira / Wacker 6-2. It was the sixth cup win for the Tyroleans, supervised by trainer Ernst Happel . The defending champion Kremser SC failed in the second round at SV Stockerau .
