The Austrian Football Association's Cup was played for the 53rd time in the 1986/87 season.

The final was played back and forth. SK Rapid Wien won the cup with an overall result of 4-2 . The green-whites laid the foundation for success in the first leg, in which they defeated FC Swarovski Tirol 2-0 in front of 9,500 spectators at the Gerhard Hanappi Stadium in Vienna . The second leg in front of 8,000 spectators at Innsbruck Tivoli ended in a 2-2 draw. It was the 13th cup win for the Hütteldorfer. Defending champion FK Austria Wien failed in the quarterfinals at SK VOEST Linz .
