Şırnak ( Kurdish Şirnex ) is a province of Turkey in the border triangle with Iraq and Syria . The capital is also called Şırnak . The province is bordered by Siirt and Van to the north, Hakkâri to the east and Mardin to the west . It has an area of 7,078 km² and is 1400 m high on average. The province was created by splitting off from Siirt Province in May 1990 (Law No. 3647). In addition to the capital Şırnak, there are another 18 municipalities (cities) and 194 villages.
Important rivers are the Tigris , the Hezil, the Çağlayan and the Kızılsu, with Kızılsu, Hezil and Habur flowing into the Tigris. The most important mountains are the Cudi with 2089 m, the Gabar, the Namaz and the Altın mountains.

At the 2011 census, the mean age in the province was 18.1 years (national average: 29.6), with the male population being on average 0.8 years older than the female (18.5-17.7). At that time, Şırnak Province had the youngest population of all 81 Turkish provinces.

etymology
- The name Şırnak is said to be derived from the word Şehr-i Nuh , which means Noach's city. This became Şerneh and then Şırnak . According to the Koran, the Cudi mountain is considered to be the landing place of Noah's Ark .
