The SKU Amstetten (full name Sportklub Union Ertl Glas Amstetten ) is an Austrian football club from the Lower Austrian district capital Amstetten . The club has played in the 2nd division since the 2018/19 season .

history

The club was formed in 1997 from a merger of the formerly second class ASK Amstetten (founded in 1932) with the SC Union Amstetten (founded in 1946). In the 2007/08 season, the club rose to the third highest division, the Regionalliga . Only a year later he was relegated to the Lower Austrian Regional League. 2011 was followed by promotion to the Regionalliga Ost, where the SKU was represented until the 2017/18 season, in which the club was promoted to the 2nd division.

Every year the SKU organizes an indoor tournament in the town hall in Amstetten and the international “Josef Leeb Memorial Tournament” for youth teams. He also leads youth teams in the ages U-9 to U-17. The SKU operated a state training center (LAZ) for young people aged 10 to 14, which was handed over to the SVU Mauer in the summer of 2010.

After the already successful performance in the ÖFB Cup in the 2013/14 season - victory over the second division club SV Mattersburg , defeat in the quarter-finals at SV Horn - the Austrian Football Cup 2016/17 season with SC Austria Lustenau was once again a professional Level playing Austrian club after a 2-2 draw with 3-2 on penalties . Before that, in the 2015/16 Austrian Football Cup season , SKU only narrowly defeated record champions SK Rapid Wien 3: 4 in the second round on penalties. In the 2017/18 ÖFB Cup , the second division SC Wiener Neustadt was defeated 1-0, but the SKU was defeated 0-1 in the second round by the second division FC Wacker Innsbruck .

homestead

SKU Amstetten plays its home games in the Ertl-Glas-Stadion in Amstetten. However, SKU supporters still call the venue "Union-Platz" (former name).

The stadium was completely renovated and expanded in 2007 and 2008 and now offers approx. 600 covered seats and standing places on the "Sparkassen-Tribüne" (west side) and approx. 400 covered standing places on the "North Stand", where the (predominantly young people) has a following of the SKU. During the 2015 summer break, another grandstand with around 700 seats, a VIP area and additional standing room was built on the long eastern side of the field. Together with additional standing space between the stands, there is a total capacity of around 3000 spectators.
