TSG Academy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The TSG Academy (original spelling) is the youth department of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . It consists of three centers (high-performance center, academy arena and basic center), in which seven teams from U19 to U9 are trained. In addition, there is the Hoffenheim U23 team, which is housed in the training and business center in Zuzenhausen. Since its inception, the academy has produced many well-known players - such as Niklas Süle , Jonas Hofmann or Davie Selke - and successful coaches. Julian Nagelsmann recently made a name for himself as the youngest full-time coach in the history of the Bundesliga.

history

With the spin-off of Spielbetriebs GmbH on June 1, 2006, the youth division of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim was raised to a professional level and received a prominent manager in the form of the former national hockey coach Bernhard Peters , who was responsible for the structures as director for sports and youth development up to his Departure in summer 2014. In the early days, the TSG youth department cooperated in syndicates with the neighboring FC Zuzenhausen, the entire sporting area was under the leadership of "Anpfiff ins Leben", an association sponsored by the Dietmar Hopp Foundation , which is based in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region takes care of holistic training for young athletes. For the 2009/10 season, the existing syndicates were dissolved and the term "Achtzehn99 Akademie" was introduced as a brand for the TSG youth department. Since autumn 2017 it has been called the "TSG Academy".

The academy's first sporting director was Matthias Born (2006–2009), and Dirk Mack , the former association sport teacher of the Württemberg Football Association , is currently the director of the new generation. Further directors were Ernst Tanner (2009 to April 2010), Alexander Rosen (until April 2013) and Michael Mutzel (until the end of 2014).

Sports area

The TSG Academy is divided into three centers. In the basic center (GZ) players from the U9 to the U13 are trained. The change from basic to advanced training is carried out, which is the focus of the Academy Arena (AA) completed in summer 2016 for the U14, U15 and U16 teams. The U17 and U19 train in the performance center (LZ). A dormitory for players is also attached there. Up to twelve players can live in single rooms directly in the performance center. In August 2017, another player dormitory was opened in Zuzenhausen for the age range U14 to U16.

School area

Since school-leaving qualifications have to be completed in addition to football, the players at the TSG Academy can take advantage of organized remedial and exam preparation lessons from the “Anpfiff ins Leben” association. The academy has also entered into collaborations with six partner schools. On the basis of this cooperation, the schools bear the title “Elite Schools of Football”, which means that the school takes into account the demands of competitive athletes. This gives the young footballers the opportunity to successfully complete their football and school training.

Organizational area

For players who can no longer live with their parents due to the great distance, there are two student residences and host families where the players can live. The TSG Academy also offers a bus transfer to get to training or other appointments such as the doctor. A total of 22 drivers are available for the transports. A permanent team of physiotherapists and athletic trainers is responsible for injured players. The rehabilitation training can also be completed in the rehabilitation center in the professional training center. Sports psychologists also take care of the players' mental well-being and mental training.

Venues

The venue for the U23 and U19 is the Dietmar-Hopp Stadium in the Sinsheim district of Hoffenheim, which has a capacity of 6,350 seats. The U17s play in the academy arena, which has both an artificial turf and a natural grass pitch.

The teams

U23

Sporty performance

Since the promotion of the first team to the national league in 1992, the club's second men's team has taken part in regular play. She previously worked in the reserve game operation of the Sinsheim district. The team, also run as U23, initially played in the district league B, the lowest division in the Sinsheim district. Between 1998 and 2001 there were four consecutive promotions and thus the jump from the district league B to the Baden association league. The team finished second in the first league year, but, like the first team, failed a few years earlier in the league relegation at SV Linx. In the second year he was finally promoted to the league. As the re-runner-up in the association league, it was relegation again - this time against the runners-up from the association leagues in South Baden and Württemberg, FC Emmendingen and Heidenheimer SB. After being promoted in 2003, TSG Hoffenheim II played in the top soccer league in Baden-Württemberg and mostly occupied places in the middle of the table. In the 2007/08 season, the team finished fifth and only narrowly missed fourth place, which is necessary for qualifying for the South Regional Football League . In the 2008/09 season, a second place was not enough for promotion, as only the master, this year SG Sonnenhof Großaspach, was eligible for promotion. In the 2009/10 season, TSG's “second” managed to win the championship title in the major league and thus advance to the regional league. In the regional league, TSG's U23s ended up mostly in the middle of the table at the end of the season. The best placement came in the Regionalliga season 2015/16 when TSG finished third.

U19

Sporty performance

The U19 of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is synonymous with the A-youth of the club, as there is no U18 team at TSG and therefore both current A-youth years are united in the U19. Since 2005, the Hoffenheim U19 has played in the south / south-west relay of the A-Juniors Bundesliga . The rise from the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg succeeded in 2005 under the coach Uwe Wolf. In their first Bundesliga season, TSG landed in ninth place. In the six years that followed, the Hoffenheim A-Juniors mostly occupied midfield. The exception was the 2011/12 season, in which the TSG U19s almost relegated from the Bundesliga. It was only on the last day of the match that they managed to stay up through a 4-0 win and the simultaneous defeat of their worst competitor, Waldhof Mannheim . In the 2012/13 season, the U19 landed a little further ahead for the first time. Under coach Thomas Krücken, the team finished the season in third place. For the 2013/14 season, the then 25-year-old Julian Nagelsmann took over the post of head coach at the U19. The team around the future professionals Nadiem Amiri and Philipp Ochs secured the South German championship at the end of the season and qualified for the semi-finals of the German A youth championship. There the team prevailed against FC Schalke 04 in the first and second leg (first leg: 1-0, second leg: 0-0). In the final there was then a clear 5-0 (1-0) win against Hannover 96 . In the following season too, TSG ended up at the top of the south / south-west relay and defended the southern German championship title. With Joshua Mees , a Hoffenheim A youth player secured the title of Bundesliga top scorer for the first time. Mees scored 20 goals in 25 games. Again the Hoffenheim U19 reached the final of the German championship - this time with two 3-2 wins against RB Leipzig. In the final, however, TSG lost to FC Schalke 04 1: 3 (1: 1) in Bochum-Wattenscheid. In the 2015/16 season the TSG A-Juniors won the southern German championship for the third time in a row and, after beating Werder Bremen 3-1 and 2-0, they also reached the final of the German championship for the third time in a row at home against Borussia Dortmund 3: 5 (1: 1). In 2018 the TSG U19 won the championship in the South / Southwest relay for the fourth time, but failed in the semi-finals at FC Schalke 04 (0: 1, 2: 4). Thanks to the qualification of the professionals for the Champions League, the youngsters took part in the UEFA Youth League and became the second German team to reach the Final Four in Nyon. Here, the team of coach Marcel Rapp lost to the eventual winner FC Porto with 0: 3. The Hoffenheim U19 team has also had some successes in the cup competitions. The highlight to this day is winning the DFB Junior Cup 2010. In the final in Berlin, TSG defeated Hertha BSC 2-1 (2-1) with two goals from Denis Thomalla . In addition, the Hoffenheim A-Juniors won the Badischer Pokal in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2019.

U17

Sporty performance

In the U17, the older B-youth group plays primarily. In contrast to the U19 or U23, all players come from the same age group with a few exceptions. The U17 of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim was a member of the newly formed B-Junior Bundesliga in the 2007/08 season. In the preseason she played in the regional league, which was the top division up until then. The first eight of the Regionalliga Süd qualified for the new Bundesliga South / Southwest, and TSG finished fifth under their coach Guido Streichsbier at the end of the season. In the very first year of the Bundesliga, the team played for the title in the South / Southwest relay. At the end of the season it came down to a duel between TSG and 1. FC Kaiserslautern . With a 4-1 win against Jahn Regensburg, the Hoffenheim U17s finally secured the championship on the last matchday. In addition, striker Marco Terrazzino was the top scorer with 20 goals.

The Kraichgauer had already secured a place in the semi-finals for the German championship, as in the south / south-west relay the vice-champion was allowed to play for the national title in addition to the champions. In the semifinals, TSG faced North / Northeast champions Hertha BSC. After a 6-1 win in the first leg in Berlin, TSG were able to afford a 3-1 defeat in the second leg at the Dietmar Hopp Stadium. The final also took place in Hoffenheim. TSG defeated the western champions Borussia Dortmund 6: 4 (4: 2). Three years later, under coach Xaver Zembrod , the U17s reached the semi-finals for the German championship again, after having previously become vice-champion in southern Germany. With Kenan Karaman , the team provided the top scorer of the South / Southwest relay this season. In the semi-finals, which was played with only one game this season, the Hoffenheim B-Juniors were defeated by the later German champions 1. FC Köln with 2: 3 (0: 2).

The U17 won another South German runner-up in the 2014/15 season under coach Jens Rasiejewski . However, since only the champions qualified for the semi-finals for the German championship this season, second place was not enough to reach the national knockout games.

The Hoffenheim U17s regularly won the Baden Cup competition. In 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2018 the Kraichgauer won the cup.

U16 to U12

In addition to the two Junior Bundesliga teams and the U23, five other teams belong to the TSG Academy. In the U16 only players from the younger B-youth group come together. The team plays in the B-Junior Oberliga Baden-Württemberg, the second highest division for B-Youth teams. Since the U17s play in the highest class, the Bundesliga, the U16s cannot advance. Sporty she would have done it several times. Most recently, she won the league championship in the 2014/15 season under coach Marcel Rapp . The current Hoffenheim U16 coach is Kai Herdling . The U15 is TSG's first C youth. She plays in the Regionalliga Süd, the highest possible division for C-Juniors. Two times in a row - in 2012 and 2013 - TSG's U15s finished the regional league season in first place, bringing the southern German championship to the Kraichgau. The master coach was always Frank Fröhling. A German championship will not be played in the C-Juniors area. Since the 2013/14 season, soccer teacher Wolfgang Heller has been the head coach of the Hoffenheim U15. Heller had previously coached the U14. Similar to the U16, the U14 also plays in the second highest division because the highest is occupied by another TSG team. In this case the U14 cannot play higher than in the C-Junioren-Oberliga Baden-Württemberg, since the U15 already plays in the regional league. The league championship has so far gone to TSG once - in the 2011/12 season. The older D-youth class is generally listed as the U13. The U13 of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, however, plays in the league in the C-youth and thus against up to two years older opponents. It is based in the Landesliga Rhein / Neckar. Due to her athletic performance, she could already have been promoted to the association league. However, TSG waived their right to promotion, as better development opportunities for the U13 talents are seen in the regional league. The last national league championship was celebrated by a Hoffenheim U13 in the 2013/14 season under coach Michael Kunzmann. Pascal Söll has been responsible for this age group since summer 2018. The youngest academy team in Hoffenheim is the U12, which does not take part in regular league operations, but instead competes in test matches or tournaments with the youth teams of other professional clubs. The current coach of the U12 is Arne Stratmann.

The children's perspective teams

In the children's perspective teams of TSG (KPT), talented F and E youth players from the region have the opportunity to take part in high-quality training units - in accordance with the training philosophy and the framework training program of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The children stay with their home clubs, but are also looked after by the TSG coaching team in addition to their training. The background is that, on the one hand, the children should not be taken out of their accustomed social environment too early, but on the other hand, it is desirable to encourage them profitably and individually. Both the players and their parents receive regular feedback on the level of development. The club coaches are also involved, giving them the opportunity to follow the training units in Hoffenheim and to take part in the training courses offered by the TSG coaching school. The children's perspective teams do not take part in a league operation, as the players already play point games with their home clubs. They only play tournaments or test matches with the KPT. The head coach of the children's perspective teams is Paul Tolasz, who is assisted by a number of exercise instructors.

Trivia

The building in which the high-performance center is located today was the home of the professionals until 2009, who used it to train in their premier Bundesliga season where the U19 and U17 teams practice together day after day. The TSG Academy has already been the subject of TV documentaries several times: SPIEGEL TV report (general youth work), ARD report on Robert Enke's suicide (here the TSG Academy was presented as a prime example of sports psychological prevention measures against depression), SWR -Long-term reporting (accompanying three A-Juniors over the entire 2013/14 season), Pro7-taff (accompanying two players over a longer period of time). The teams at the TSG Academy are increasingly taking part in international tournaments. The U19 have already taken part twice in the "Dallas Cup" in Texas / USA and the U17 have already played twice in the "Governor's Cup" in Japan. TSG teams have also competed several times in the “Tri Series” of the Aspire Academy in Qatar and the “U12 Izmir Cup” in Turkey.
