As Geographical areas of Turkey ( Turkish Türkiye'nin coğrafi bölgeleri ) or regions of Turkey seven Turkish regions will be referred to within the borders of Turkey in the landscapes Anatolia and Thrace are.

introduction

The division into seven regions was mainly based on similar climatic characteristics. Therefore, the landscape and land use of the areas within the respective regions are very similar. Each region therefore differs primarily in its climate (e.g. Black Sea region - temperate) and also by its land use (e.g. Marmara Sea - industrial region, Eastern Anatolia - agricultural), location, vegetation, fauna, nature of the earth (e.g. B. red earth, forest area), geographical features (e.g. mountainous).

In 1941 the 1st Geography Congress took place in Ankara . After a long collaboration, many scientists presented their results at this congress. One of the results was the geographical division into seven regions and 21 sub-regions or areas / areas. This division into geographical areas of Turkey has no administrative or political significance.

Four of the seven regions were named after the neighboring seas Aegean , Black , Mediterranean and Marmara . The remaining three regions were named after their geographical location in Anatolia: Central, East and Southeast Anatolia.
