Geographical location
Andover is centrally located in Oxford County. The Ellis River , a tributary of the Androscoggin River , flows through the area of the town in a southerly direction. The surface of the area is hilly, the highest point being the 918 m high Long Mountain in the west of Andover.

history
Andover was acquired by Samuel Johnson and others from the state of Massachusetts in 1791 . As the first settler in 1789 Ezekiel Merrill settled with his wife Sarah and seven children. They were from Andover , Massachusetts. The area was organized as a town on June 23, 1804. First under the name East Andover, since Andover still belonged to Massachusetts from 1821 then under the name Andover. Since the state of Maine existed in 1820. The first mill was built by Colonel Thomas Poor at Andover Falls in 1791 and the first church in 1804.
The first settlers worked as farmers and woodcutters, but tourism increasingly became an important economic factor for Andover. The Appalachian Trail runs through the western part of the town.

The Maine State Route 120 runs east through the Town towards Rumford. In a southerly direction, Maine State Route 5 runs parallel to the Ellis River and leads to Hanover. Both meet in Village Andover.
Public facilities
Andover doesn't have its own hospital. The closest hospital is Rumford Hospital in Rumford
The Andover Public Library goes back to a society that was founded on December 14, 1795 and had more than 70 members. This company operated a library until 1843. There was a successor with the establishment of a new society on May 8, 1891. In 1943 the library moved into the building of the Universalist Church, which had been unused for several years.
education
Andover is part of Maine School Administrative District 44 along with Bethel, Greenwood, Gilead, Hanover, Newry and Woodstock . There are two elementary schools, Crescent Park Elementary School and Woodstock Elementary School , as well as Telstar Middle School and Telstar High School . The Baily Memorial Library is located in the Clarendon Grange Community Center .
