The Saudi national anthem ( Arabic النشيد الوطني السعودي, DMG an-našīd al-waṭanī as-saʿūdī ) is the national anthem of Saudi Arabia . The melody known as as-salām al-malakī was composed by Abd ar-Rahman al-Chatib in 1947 and declared the national anthem in 1950. For many years the national anthem was officially without a text, although there was an unofficial wording written by the poet Muhammad Talat , which extolled the king as the guardian of the holy places of Islam. Today's text was written by Ibrahim Chafaji and officially adopted in 1984. He praises God and asks that the king be given a long life.

Strive for glory and supremacy,
Let us praise the Creator of Heaven, and
raise the green, the fluttering flag,
the mark of light!
Repeat: God is greatest! Oh my country!
My country, may you live forever, the glory of all Muslims!
Long live the king, for the flag and the country!
