Geographical location

Borowikowo is located in the northeast of the Rominter Heide on the municipal road 27K-074 from Kalinino (Mehlkehmen / Birkenmühle) to the regional road 27A-059 just before the Russian-Polish border at Żytkiejmy (Szittkehmen / Wehrkirchen) , where there is no crossing. Until 1945 there was a connection to the Gumbinnen – Goldap railway line via the Nassawen station (now in Russian: Lessistoje) .

history

On June 24, 1874, Szinkuhnen was one of the ten rural communities and manor districts that formed the Jägersthal district . On September 17, 1936, the spelling of the community Szinkuhnen was changed to Schinkuhnen, and on June 3, 1938 (officially confirmed on July 16, 1938) the name was changed to Schenkenhagen.

Until 1945, Schenkenhagen belonged to the administrative district, now renamed Nassawen (Russian: Lessistoje), to the Stallupönen district (1938–1945 Ebenrode district ) in the Gumbinnen district of the Prussian province of East Prussia .

In 1945 the place came under Soviet administration. In 1947 he received the Russian name Borowikowo and was assigned at the same time to the village soviet Kalininski selski Sowet in Nesterow Rajon . church

Before 1945, the predominantly Protestant population of Schinkschuhe / Schenkenhagen belonged to the church village Mehlkehmen (1938–1946 Birkenmühle , today Russian: Kalinino) in the parish of Stallupönen (1938–1946 Ebenrode , Russian: Nesterow) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . The last German clergyman was Pastor Peter von Freyhold.

Church activities were prohibited during the Soviet Union. In the 1990s a Protestant congregation was formed again in Kalinino, which was integrated into the Kaliningrad provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia (ELCER). The clergy responsible are the pastors of the Salzburg church in Gussew ( Gumbinnen ).
