Castelnovo ne 'Monti (in Emilian Castelnōv di Mûnt ) is a town with 10,479 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Reggio Emilia in the Emilia-Romagna region . It is located 41 km south of Reggio nell'Emilia and 101 km west of Bologna . The name is derived from Castrum novum (new castle), with the addition in the mountains .
geography
The city is the capital of the Emilian Apennines . It lies at the foot of the Pietra di Bismantova (1047 mslm), one of the most striking mountains in the northern Apennines. The mountain is a popular climbing destination with difficult climbing paths. The mountain is also mentioned by Dante Alighieri in one of his verses.
The districts of Costa de 'Grassi, Felina, Gatta, Garfagnolo and Gombio belong to the municipality. She is a member of the Comunità Montana dell'Appennino Reggiano .
The neighboring towns are Busana , Carpineti , Casina , Canossa , Ramiseto , Vetto and Villa Minozzo .
