Colin Dean Smith (born June 20, 1993 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Kölner Haien in the DEL since November 2019 .
Career
Colin Smith began his career as a hockey player in 2006 with the CAC Canadians Bantam AAA in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League (AMBHL), a league for players under the age of 15 under the jurisdiction of Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta . In 2008 he ran for the CAC Edmonton Canadians Mdgt AAA , who competed in the Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL). 2009/10 Smith had his first international appearance in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2010 for the Canada Pacific team. The following season he competed in the 2011 U18 World Junior Championship for Canada.
As a junior he made it into one of the three highest Canadian junior leagues, the WHL . Here he played from the 2008/09 season for the Kamloops Blazers for which he was active for 5 seasons. In his last season 2012/13 for the team from British Columbia he reached the Western Conference finals of the WHL and was the most successful player in the Blazers with 106 points, among the top 10 players with the highest points in the WHL this season and was in the first All Star Team of the Western Conference elected. He then received a three-year entry level contract from the Colorado Avalanche organization , which also included the eligibility to play for their respective AHL team.
Smith played two years in the AHL for the Lake Erie Monsters , there as the only player to play in all 76 games in his first professional season. In the 2014/15 game year he made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Colorado Avalanche . He was then transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs . He spent the 2017/18 season with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins and Stockton Heat . In total he was active for 5 seasons for 5 different teams in the AHL. He scored more than 30 points in each season, and in the 2015/16 season he was among the top 20 players in the league with 56 points.
On June 28, 2018 Colin Smith agreed to a one-year contract with the Eisbären Berlin in the DEL . In February 2019 he received German citizenship. For the following season 2019/20 he joined the league competitor ERC Ingolstadt . After 17 games (3 goals) for the club from Upper Bavaria , he moved within the league to the Kölner Haien .
