Erpe (Twiste)
The Erpe is a 26 km long, southern and right tributary of the Twiste in the Hessian districts of Kassel and Waldeck-Frankenberg ( Germany ).

The Erpe rises in the north Hessian Habichtswald Nature Park south of Oelshausen (south-south-western district of Zierenberg ). Its source area with 6 source streams lies on the western to northern slopes of the Wattenberg ( 516.2 m above sea level ); The Hundsberg ( 496 m ) is located in the north-northeastern neighborhood of the headwaters . The kilometering of the Erpe begins on the western slope of the Wattenberg about 390 m above sea level.
The Erpe, which runs from the beginning and most of its route in the district of Kassel, initially flows north through Oelshausen, after which it is bridged by the federal road 251 and then passes the Teichmühle and the eastern Burghasunger Berg ( Hasunger Berg ; 479.7 m ) . Then it runs northwest through Wenigen- and Altenhasungen (eastern districts of Wolfhagen ), where it flows past the Großer Bärenberg ( 600.7 m ) towering to the northeast .
After passing through the mill of the lawn from the eastern side of the leads Isthabergs ( 523.1 m flowing) zoom Lohbach a. The Erpe then flows past the Schützeberger Hof and, after crossing under the Volkmarsen – Vellmar-Obervellmar railway line ( Erpetal bridge ), past the Neue Mühle and the Oleimühle; both are south of the Schützeberg ( 277.2 m ). Then the creek in the section Nothfelden- Wolfhagen is bridged by the state road 3214, which is part of the German half-timbered road there . After the confluence of the mill water coming from the southwest , about 1.5 km northeast of Wolfhagen, the stream passes the Renlewessen desert and Elmarshausen, which belongs to Wolfhagen, with the Elmarshausen moated castle and the Witmarsen village desert and then runs along the railway line past the urban desert Landsberg and the castle ruin Rodersen .
The Erpe then flows through the Ehringen flood retention basin , where it crosses the border to the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. On the right-hand side, Dase , which comes from Niederelsungen (district of Wolfhagen), also flows into the Ehringen flood retention basin. Slightly below its dam, the Erpe runs through Ehringen (south-southeastern part of Volkmarsen ), where the Viesebeckerbach flows in from Viesebeck (to Wolfhagen) on the left . After the Rhödaer Bach flows into the river on the right, the brook passes the core town of Volkmarsen at the Vogelsangmühle directly to the east.
About 1 km north of Volkmarsen or not far north-north-west of the Kugelsburg ruins , which are located east of the stream on the Kugelsberg, the Erpe flows into the Twiste , which comes from there from the south-west , a southern tributary of the Diemel in the Weser river system .
Natural allocation
The Erpe rises in the natural spatial main unit group West Hessisches Bergland ( West Hessisches Berg- und Senkenland ; No. 34) and within the main unit Habichtswälder Bergland (342) in the sub-unit Hinterhabichtswälder Kuppen (342.2). Then it flows in the main unit Ostwaldecker Randsenken (341) through the natural areas Isthaebene (341.34), Altenhasunger Graben (341.33) and Ehringer Senke (341.30), which belong to the subunit Wolfhager Hügelland (341.3); the mouth lies in the subunit Volkmars Basin (341.2).

Watershed
The source area of the Erpe lies on the Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser watershed . While the water of the Erpe, which flows in a northerly direction, reaches the Weser through the Twiste and Diemel , that of the Spolebach , which rises about 900 m west of the Erpe spring and mainly runs southwest, runs through the Elbe , Eder and Fulda to the Weser, and also the south-east flowing Ems , which flows a little south of the Wattenberg at Schauenburg -Martinhagen, drains through the Eder and Fulda to the Weser.
