French Rugby Union Championship 1997/98
The 1997/98 season was the 99th edition of the French Rugby Union Championship. It comprised 20 teams in the top division (today's top 14 ).
The championship was divided into two phases. In the qualifying round ten teams played against each other in two groups. The four best placed moved into the quarter-finals, for the other teams the season was over. Because of the increase in the league in the following season, there were no relegations. The quarter-finals were played in a first leg and a second leg. The winners of the semi-finals met in the final, which took place for the first time at the Stade de France , and played for the Bouclier de Brennus . The newly promoted Stade Français prevailed against the USA Perpignan and won the championship title for the first time since 1908 (for the ninth time overall).
