Frat pack

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frat Pack (occasionally also "Slacker Pack") is the name for a group of Hollywood actors who have worked together in various constellations on a number of successful comedies since the late 1990s . This group regularly includes the actors Ben Stiller , Owen Wilson , Luke Wilson , Will Ferrell , Vince Vaughn , Steve Carell and Jack Black .

Origin of the term

The name The Frat Pack is a nod to the legendary The Rat Pack , which included Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin , Sammy Davis, Jr. , Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop . The term “rat pack” literally means “pack of rats”, but it is more a “group of villains”. In contrast to this, "Frat" is an abbreviation for the American fraternities . There was a similar allusion in the eighties - the so-called Brat Pack . This was the name given to a generation of actors who established themselves in clique films in the early to mid-1980s, in which the same actors often appeared together. They also met privately and were known to be wild partiers.

The term Frat Pack was first used in 1998 by Entertainment Weekly , but at that time the name applied to actors Leonardo DiCaprio , Matt Damon , Ben Affleck , Edward Norton and Ryan Phillippe , who were declared as the new generation of Hollywood. However, the term did not become permanent until June 2004, after USA Today used it in an article relating to the film Old School - We Let Absolutely Nothing Burn (2003) starring Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn, and soon afterwards had also been picked up by other media .

The actors of the Frat Pack themselves have repeatedly emphasized that the group was a pure invention of the media and denied any agreements with regard to a monopoly of the Hollywood comedy landscape. The only reason for the frequent collaboration is their close private friendship.

Members

The group originally consisted of seven actors: Ben Stiller , Owen Wilson , Luke Wilson , Will Ferrell , Vince Vaughn , Steve Carell and Jack Black . Over time, the circle expanded to include the original Frat Pack and the group also included actors such as Jason Bateman , Paul Rudd , Seth Rogen , Jonah Hill , John C. Reilly , Justin Long , Kevin James , Adam Sandler and Jon Favreau .

Actresses like Malin Åkerman , Amy Poehler or Kristen Bell are also included in The Frat Pack because they were involved in one or more of the troupe's films, but the proportion of women in the group is significantly lower.

As Frat Packagers directors, producers or scriptwriters are referred to several times in Frat Pack have participated movies. These include a. Judd Apatow , Todd Phillips , Wes Anderson, and Adam McKay .

Filmography

There is no movie in which all seven of the original Frat Pack members played. After all, six of them played together in Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy , only Owen Wilson does not appear in the film.
