The Bayernliga is the second highest league in Bavarian football . Until the regional league Bayern was introduced in 2012, it was the highest league. The Bayernliga is hosted by the Bavarian Football Association (BFV).

The Bayern League usually consists of 18 teams per season, a total of 36. However, depending on the number of ascending or descending clubs, the number can vary. In the 2012/13 season there were 37 teams, 18 in the north and 19 in the southern season.
