Football at the Summer Universiade
Football has been part of the program at the Summer Universiade since the 1985 Games in Kobe , with one exception in 1989. Football wasalready ademonstration sportat the 1979 Universiade in Mexico City . Participants are soccer student teams who, like all other participants, are nominated by the respective national umbrella organizations for university sports. The tournament is held every two years. In 1993, a tournament in women's football tookplace for the first time, since 2001 regularly.
