Gol is a municipality in the province ( Fylke ) Viken in Norway . The old Norse name is Gorð and is probably an old name for the lower reaches of the Hemsil River .

The administrative seat is the city of the same name. The municipalities of Ål , Hemsedal and Nesbyen in Fylke Viken and Nord-Aurdal and Sør-Aurdal in Fylke Innlandet border Gol . Gol is one of the most important winter sports centers in Norway.

Three black keys on stakes in gold , the beards pointing downwards to the left , with a common cross opening . The rides are round with a simple cross.

The coat of arms dates from 1985 and shows the old key to Gol stave church .

In addition to Riksvei (RV) 7, which runs through Gol, the place also has a train station for the Bergen Railway . The journey time is around 2 hours and 45 minutes from Oslo and around 4 hours from Bergen .
