The HBW Balingen-Weilstetten syndicate , HBW for short, is a handball club from Balingen that plays in the handball Bundesliga .
history
The club was created in 2002 through the merger of the handball teams of TSG Balingen and TV Weilstetten , taking the place of TV Weilstetten in the regional league. The syndicate rose after the first season from the regional league to the 2nd handball Bundesliga south. In 2004, Rolf Brack took over the position of coach for the next nine years and since the championship in the 2nd Handball Bundesliga South in 2005/06 the HBW has played in the Handball Bundesliga . The first team of the HBW plays its home games in the Sparkassen-Arena, built in 2006 . At the end of the 2013/14 season , the team was in 16th place in the table and was thus relegated in terms of sport, but remained in the Bundesliga because HSV Hamburg was not granted a license for the 2014/15 season due to the lack of evidence of secure economic performance. The license was granted to HSV before the HBL arbitration tribunal, but HBW was able to sue for its right to start the handball Bundesliga before the Dortmund Regional Court. During the season, the long-time coach Brack had already been separated due to the sporting situation. After Balingen was relegated from the Bundesliga in the 2016/17 season, the team managed to return to the top class as champions of the second division in 2019 .
