The 1968/68 season of the handball Bundesliga is the third of the double-track seasons in its history .

16 teams played in two seasons of eight teams each for the German championship in 1969. The leaders of the seasons North and South after the 14th matchday competed against each other in a final. The winner is German champion 1968. Newcomers to the new season were Eintracht Hildesheim , RSV Mülheim an der Ruhr , TS Esslingen and TV 05/07 Hüttenberg .

German champion 1968 was the third time in the club's history the winner of the North Season, VfL Gummersbach , who defeated the defending champion and winner of the South Season, SG Leutershausen . BSV Solingen 98 , Eintracht Hildesheim , TSV Birkenau and TV 05/07 Hüttenberg had to relegate .

Final of the German championship

The game for the German championship was played on March 22, 1969 between the winner of the North Season, VfL Gummersbach , and the winner of the South Season and defending champion, SG Leutershausen , in front of about 12,500 spectators in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle . The German handball champion in 1969 was the VfL Gummersbach team for the third time in the club's history, defeating the SG Leutershausen team 21:13 (9: 5).
