Towards the end of the 18th century there were two properties in Holzmühle. The high court exercised the rule of Wilhermsdorf . The two mills had the Buchklingen manor as their landlord .

As part of the community edict, Holzmühle was assigned to the Buchklingen tax district formed in 1811 . It also belonged to the rural community of Buchklingen, founded in 1813 . From 1815 to 1818 it was subject to the Wilhermsdorf Lordship Court , then to the Markt Erlbach Regional Court . However, until 1839 the Wilhermsdorf patrimonial court held voluntary jurisdiction and the police .

On January 1, 1972, Holzmühle was incorporated into Markt Erlbach as part of the regional reform .
