Career
Jozef Stümpel started his career in his hometown at AC Nitra . After playing in the first division of Czechoslovakia for two years , among others with Žigmund Pálffy , the Kölner Haie noticed him in 1991 and signed the young talent. In the 1991 NHL Entry Draft , the Boston Bruins , who drew him in 40th place, secured the rights to the center firing on the left . Due to strong performances, he recommended himself for a commitment in the National Hockey League and switched to the Bruins during the season. However, he did not get many missions in Boston in the first few years, but was mostly used in the AHL team in Providence.
1993/94 stump established himself in the NHL team of the Bruins and also played the play-offs in Boston, where they first reached the second round. At the beginning of the 1994/95 season he played again for the Kölner Haie due to the lockout , but returned to North America after its end. In 1997, Stümpel had become a top player in the league, he was transferred to the Los Angeles Kings , where he played for the next four years and was always one of the best players. However, his greatest success was again reaching the second play-off round in 2001. Shortly after the start of the 2001 season , he was switched back to Boston, where he scored 109 points in 161 games in the following two years, but early in the play-offs failed. For the 2003/04 season he moved back to the Kings. However, he could not fulfill his two-year contract due to the lockout - he played the 2004/05 season at HC Slavia Prague in the Czech extra league . After the lockout ended in 2005, Stümpel returned to North America, where he played for the Florida Panthers until 2008 . In the summer of the same year he moved to the Continental Hockey League for Barys Astana from Kazakhstan .
In July 2010 he moved together with Maxim Spiridonow and Konstantin Glazachev to HK Dinamo Minsk and was team captain of the club in the following season. For Dinamo he completed 52 KHL games, in which he scored 33 points. After the end of the season he was signed by HK Spartak Moscow . In December 2011, his contract with Spartak was terminated and Stümpel was available as a free agent as well as Marcel Hossa . Stümpel then returned to Slovakia and played two games for his home club before he was signed by Kärpät Oulu from the SM-liiga at the end of January 2012 . He then played 27 games for Kärpät.
