Julie Weiss

Julie Weiss , born Julielle Weiss , (born October 10, 1947 in Los Angeles County , California ) is an American costume designer .

life and work

Julie Weiss is the daughter of Betty Jane Weiss, who volunteered for various matters in Santa Monica , and her husband, the doctor Benjamin James Weiss. She was studying literature at Berkeley when several professors suggested she become a costume designer and take a course at Brandeis University . They had already registered them beforehand. There she completed her studies in costume design.

She started her career in the theater. In 1973 at the latest, she worked there as a costume designer. From 1979 she worked on Broadway . For her first play there, The Elephant Man , she received a Tony Award nomination .

In 1975 she made her film debut in Mr. Sycamore . In 1982 she got her first Emmy nomination for the film adaptation of The Elephant Man . In total, she has been nominated for an Emmy seven times so far (as of 2018) and has won it twice. The films for which she was responsible for the costumes include 12 Monkeys and Frida , each of which received an Oscar nomination , as well as films such as Masters of the Universe , Tequila Sunrise , Steel Magnolias , Freshman , The King's Game - A Master Is Born , $ 2 million tip , Marvin's Daughters , Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas , A Simple Plan , American Beauty , Hearts in Atlantis , The Hollywood Conspiracy , The Time Traveler's Wife, or Hitchcock .

Julie Weiss was also a visiting professor at UCLA .
