Kassengift is the seventh studio album by the Berlin pop band Rosenstolz , released on September 4, 2000, and is also the name of the accompanying tour.

background

The album Kassengift was recorded from July 1999 to June 2000 and finally released on September 4, 2000. In 2002 a new edition of the album was released.

With Kassengift Rosenstolz managed for the first time in her career to get to the top of the German album charts, the album missed entry in Austria and Switzerland. It is also the first album by Rosenstolz, which with Amo Vitam and Total Eclipse also contains non-German songs.

According to Plate, the album title is an allusion to her non-existent media presence at the time: Marlene Dietrich's biography said that Marlene was cash poison at a certain time . I just thought: What a cool word. The title is of course also a comment on what has happened to us in the last ten years: On the one hand, the concerts are full and people also buy our records, but that we are not in the media. That's why the title song says: "I am the song that is not played. I am the video that does not play." Viva says: "You are twice as old as our audience." And the ZDF: "You're too shrill." We don't fit into Bravo, but neither do we fit into Stern. . . "

The album was preceded by the single release by Amo Vitam , with which Rosenstolz was able to place itself at number 19 in the German single charts. The song is a Latin pop arie with trance elements and sacral choirs, which contains the message “I love life, I love sex, but why am I lonely”. A second version of the song and the video with Marc Almond as a guest singer followed in 2001. Amo Vitam appeared as a bonus track with Almond on Almond's album Glorious and on the compilation Alles Gute - Die Goldedition von Rosenstolz.

The video for the second single Kinder der Nacht was shot in January 2001 in Hamburg by director Marcus Sternberg. It appeared in a "day version" and a more revealing "night version". The song was actually intended for the album Wednesday is' er due under the title Morgenlicht . In the end it was only released on the strictly limited CD Sanfter Verführer and was released in 2000 in a modified form as the single Kinder der Nacht .

In March 2001 the single Total Eclipse / Black Widow followed . Initially the single was planned under the title Divendoppel . It consists of duets with Nina Hagen and Marc Almond, as well as two French versions of songs from the album Kassengift . According to AnNa R., the collaboration with Marc Almond came about as follows: “At one of his concerts, a journalist gave him a CD from us. Marc was so excited that he called us a few days later and then the idea for the joint recording of 'Total Eclipse' came up. ” Total Eclipse is a cover song of the 1981 song by Klaus Nomi . Nina Hagen could be won over for the song Black Widow . For Plate an ideal cast: "Because her name on it." . With the single, Rosenstolz made it to number 22 in the German single charts.
