List of cities in Russia |
Krymsk ( Russian Крымск ) is a city in the Krasnodar region in Russia with 57,382 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). It is located on the left Kuban tributary Adagum , 87 km from the regional capital Krasnodar . The closest city is Abinsk around 15 km southeast of Krymsk.
history
The place was founded in 1862 as Stanitsa Krymskaja , which roughly means 'Crimean Stanitsa'. A military base had been established there five years earlier. The crew came partly from the nearby Black Sea peninsula of Crimea , which explains the name. With the granting of city rights in 1958, the place name changed to Krymsk .
Oil production began in the area around the town as early as the 1860s , which quickly gave the town a certain economic importance. In 1885 Krymsk received a railway connection. It also became an important agricultural center in the 1930s and 1940s.
During World War II , Krymsk was occupied by the German Wehrmacht from August 1942 to May 5, 1943 .

Economy and Transport
Currently, Krymsk Raion is one of the most important centers of oil production in the Krasnodar Territory, even if there are no oil processing plants in the city of Krymsk itself. The industrial operations in Krymsk include several food factories, farms and a building materials factory. Due to the comparatively warm and mild climate, the area around Krymsk is one of the few areas in Russia where viticulture is practiced.
The city is located on the Russian M4 trunk road from Moscow to the Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk . Several railway lines cross in Krymsk. From Krymskaya station there are connections to Novorossiysk, Krasnodar, Anapa , Slavyansk on the Kuban and other cities.
Trivia
In his war novel "The patient meat", Willi Heinrich also dealt with the fighting over Krymskaja in the spring of 1943, among other things.
