August 31 : The Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus , built according to plans by the architect Hermann Dernburg on behalf of the German Society for Surgery and the Berlin Medical Society, is handed over to the societies as part of a simple inauguration ceremony. Siemens & Halske and Chemische Industrie Basel , which were won as sub-tenants , moved into the building in February.

Hashiguchi: In the bathroom

The publisher and art dealer Watanabe Shōzaburō coined the term Shin-hanga for the modern form of Japanese woodcut . The first Shin-hanga in the bathroom comes from Hashiguchi Goyō . At the same time, the Sōsaku-hanga , another form of woodcut , in which the artist carries out all three work steps (drawing, carving, printing) himself, is flourishing . Several artists in this direction jointly publish the magazine Tsukuhae .

Egon Schiele paints the expressionist painting Death and the Maiden in oil on canvas . He first gave the large picture the name Man and Girl or Tangled People .

Museums and exhibitions

June / July: The Vortizists' only exhibition takes place in the Doré Gallery in London . The second and final issue of Wyndham Lewis' pre-eccentric magazine, Blast , will appear in July . A third issue has been announced for the autumn, but will no longer appear due to the war .

The black square

December 19 : The art exhibition 0.10 of the Suprematists in the Dobychina Petrograd Gallery opens until January 17, 1916 . Among other things, the painting The Black Square by Kasimir Severinovich Malevich is exhibited here. Other exhibitors include Vladimir Evgrafowitsch Tatlin , Iwan Albertowitsch Puni , Alexandra Exter , Lyubow Sergejewna Popowa , Iwan Wassiljewitsch Kljun , Olga Vladimirovna Rosanova , Nadeschda Andrejewna Udalzowa and Natan Issajewitsch Altman .
