The Ferrari LaFerrari is a supercar from the Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari , which was presented at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5, 2013 as the brand's new top model. It is the first production Ferrari to have a hybrid drive  - a system that Ferrari calls HY-KERS and which was derived from Formula 1 by the KERS . The Ferrari Enzo is the direct predecessor of the LaFerrari, the successor is the SF90 Stradale . With a total output of 708 kW (963 hp), the LaFerrari was considered the most powerful two-seater from the Ferrari brand until the SF90 Stradale was presented.

General

The car was designed after a long line of Pininfarina models in Ferrari's design department and is comparable to the McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder models . For the first time in the history of the Ferrari brand, the LaFerrari, a series vehicle with hybrid drive, was presented which is technically based in part on the Ferrari 599 HY-KERS Concept , which was presented as a study in Geneva in 2010. The LaFerrari has a 6.3 liter V12 engine with 588 kW (800 hp), which has already been installed in other power configurations in the FXX and F12 . If necessary, it is supported at short notice by two electric motors that together provide 120 kW. One of these motors transfers its power directly to the dual clutch transmission, the second operates various assemblies and thus relieves the main drive. The electrical energy required for this is obtained when the vehicle decelerates and stored in accumulators that are located deep down in the vehicle. The top speed is specified by Ferrari as "over 350 km / h", for a lap on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, the manufacturer expects a time of less than seven minutes. On the in-house test track in Fiorano, it should be around two seconds faster than its predecessor Enzo Ferrari with a lap time of 1:20 minutes .

The LaFerrari, which also serves the manufacturer as an image carrier, also due to its limitation to 499 vehicles, offers the possibility of only delivering them to selected customers - good framework conditions for the introduction of new technologies that will also be found in other models in the future. The monocoque and body of the car consist of four different types of carbon fiber reinforced plastics . According to Ferrari, these parts are manufactured in the manufacturer's Formula 1 department. The butterfly doors , which were very similar to the previous model, are also characteristic . As with its predecessor, a near-series racing version of the car, called the FXX K , was produced. The FXX K has a system output of more than 1000 hp. The sales price is more than three million euros.

To improve driving characteristics, the LaFerrari has a Brembo brake system with silicon carbide ceramic brake discs and an electrically extendable rear wing . Most of the downforce, however, is generated by the sub-floor.

499 vehicles of the LaFerrari were produced, all of which were sold out before they were released.

On September 1, 2016, Ferrari announced that another LaFerrari would be produced. The vehicle was in on December 4, 2016 Daytona Beach for 7 million US dollars auctioned and was then the most expensive car of the 21st century. The proceeds went to the victims of the Accumoli earthquake disaster . Visually, the last LaFerrari stands out with an Italian flag directly below the front Ferrari logo and white stripes. In addition, a plaque commemorates the victims of the earthquake.

The name

In the run-up to the presentation, Ferrari made a big secret about the new model. The name "LaFerrari" (Eng. DerFerrari ) was only announced during the presentation by the then Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo . The name embodies exactly what his company is all about. Previously, there had been speculation about names such as F70 , Enzo 2 or F150 - whereby F150 follows the system of project numbers used by Ferrari, but is protected as a designation of a F-series truck by Ford .

Aperta

Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta

At the beginning of July 2016, Ferrari showed the first pictures of the Aperta, the open version of the LaFerrari. The LaFerrari Aperta was produced in a small number of 210 copies. When the pictures were published, Ferrari announced that the car was sold out after an exclusive customer preview. The 210th Aperta was auctioned off by RM Sotheby's for the aid organization Save the Children for 8.3 million euros. It exceeded the estimated price of 2.4 to 3.3 million euros many times over and is the most expensive Ferrari of the 21st century. The open version gets the engine from the coupé.
