history
The oldest surviving mention of Lauter comes from 1293, when the place is referred to in a document as Luttara , which means something like clear stream . This refers to the Lauter brook, where people settled back then. They used the power of the water and built numerous mills. This is how Lauter got his local name, the seven mills village .
In 1526 Lauter became Protestant, as Landgrave Philip I of Hesse could be won over to the Protestant cause through Luther's appearance. At that time there was already a Lutheran pastor in Grünberg , who was assisted by altarists who had become Lutheran, who acted as pastors for the surrounding towns. The first pastor from Lauter was Peter Stupp, who looked after Lauter, which was then a subsidiary of Grünberg, until 1536.
In 1634/35 in the Thirty Years' War the old Lauter near the Bing was completely destroyed, but the residents rebuilt it further northwest.

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Lauter in 1830:
“Louder (L. Bez. Grünberg) evangel. Branch village; is 1 ⁄ 4 St. from Grünberg, has 76 houses and 408 inhabitants, all of whom are Protestant. You will find 1 church, 4 grinding mills, 1 oil and 1 fulling mill and 1 courtyard called Bing. "
In 1904 Lauter acquired the rights to promote the best Vogelsberg drinking water on the Bing site for the necessary water supply. This is a water protection area to this day . Bad Nauheim and Friedberg as well as a further 34 communities in the Wetterau / Wetteraukreis are thus supplied with water from Lauter.
In 1905 the waterworks was completed and the pipes were laid. With the construction of an elevated tank in 1907, the place could be connected to the water network and the worth seeing tube fountain in the northern part of the place was no longer used by the community residents.
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , Lauter became part of the city of Laubach on December 31, 1970 through voluntary incorporation . For the Lauter district, as for the other incorporated, formerly independent municipalities of Laubach, a local district with a local advisory board and local head was set up according to the Hessian municipal code.
In 2000 Lauter celebrated its 700th anniversary in the village (actually 707 years) with a big festival.

Law
Substantive law
In Lauter, the town and official custom of Grünberg was a particular right . The Common Law was only included if the office I do not need regulations. This special law of old tradition retained its validity during the affiliation to the Grand Duchy of Hesse in the 19th century, until it was replaced on January 1, 1900 by the civil code that was uniformly valid throughout the German Empire .
Court constitution since 1803
In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or landlords and thus the “Amt Grünberg” was responsible for Lauter. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .
With the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance were transferred to the newly created regional courts in 1821 as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. “ Landgericht Grünberg ” was therefore from 1821 to 1879 the name of the court of first instance that was responsible for Lauter.
On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand-ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to "Amtsgericht Grünberg" and assigned to the district of the regional court of Giessen . On July 1, 1968, the Grünberg District Court was dissolved, and Lauter was added to the Gießen District Court . In the Federal Republic of Germany, the superordinate instances are the Regional Court of Giessen , the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.
