The list of German aircraft development projects includes prototype versions of aircraft used by the German Air Force during World War II and unfinished experimental programs from wartime.

The technical legacy of German developments

After the capitulation of National Socialist Germany, some of the secret or unfinished projects of German military aircraft became well known. Certain post-war aircraft such as the Bell X-5 , the F-86 Saber or the MiG-15 were also to be based on the pioneering work of German aircraft designers from the Second World War.

The archives of German aircraft manufacturers such as Henschel in Kassel were destroyed in the course of the Allied bombing of the Third Reich in the final phase of the Second World War. Hence, some of the late Henschel projects that were later recreated are based on documents taken elsewhere or second hand rather than Henschel's original technical drawings.
