history
The Charité , which dates back to 1710 and 1729, is considered the oldest hospital in Berlin .
On June 27, 1945, the chief reverse services of the GSBT troops reported to Anastas Mikojan in the Defense Committee of the USSR that 92 hospitals and other health facilities had been registered in all of Berlin. “All of these institutions have already started their operations. The total number of beds in the hospitals is 31,780. 654 doctors have started their work in clinics, 801 doctors practice privately. "
In the meantime (as of May 2020) a publication states: “In Berlin 60 hospitals provide medical care for the population from Berlin and the Brandenburg area.” Patients from other German federal states and abroad are also treated.
The largest such institutions are the Charité , the Vivantes clinics , which are publicly owned, as well as numerous church, non-profit or private clinics . The Berlin Kranhaus facilities provide annually more than one million patients stationary. The most common diseases treated are heart failure and alcohol problems.
