The nature reserve is located south of Stubben , a district of the municipality of Beverstedt. It extends along the lowland of the Billerbeck from the border to the district of Osterholz to the crossing of the Billerbeck through the Bremen – Bremerhaven railway line . It includes part of the lowland of the Billerbeck, part of the part of the lowland of the Oldendorfer Bach located in the district of Cuxhaven and the lowest section of the lowland of the Stubbenbach. Furthermore, the deciduous forest of the Seebecker Ohe and the Wecke are included in the nature reserve.

The Billerbeck runs relatively close to nature in the area of the nature reserve. The strips of water at the edge of the Billerbeck and Oldendorfer Bach are taken up by tall herbaceous vegetation and reed beds . The brook lowlands are mainly used for agriculture as partially species-rich grassland of varying degrees of moisture. In the north, extensively used wet meadows and fallow land are pronounced. Here also an alder - ash - quarry forest grows in the Bachaue, which merges to the east into the forests of the Seebecker Ohe. Near-natural deciduous forest complexes stand on the edge of the Geestrands. The forest communities in the nature reserve are pronounced as hornbeam -beech forests , beech forests with holly in the undergrowth , oak-hornbeam forests and oak forests. The dominant tree species are common beech , common oak and hornbeam . The forests have a high proportion of old and dead wood . A lush herbaceous layer has developed in the oak forests .

The Geest streams have sandy-gritty riverbeds . In some cases there is flooding water vegetation. They are the habitat of brook and river lamprey and hunting habitat for pond bat . In addition to the pond bat the nature reserve is also a habitat for Greater mouse-eared , Daubenton's bat , Serotine , noctule and little Noctule . The area is also the habitat and migration corridor of the otter .
