The NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship (in German NWA Junior World Heavyweight Championship ) is a title of the National Wrestling Alliance .
history
Compared to the NWA World Heavyweight Championship , it is a less prestigious title. It was fought out especially with wrestlers of lower weight classes. The forerunners of today's title go back to 1945. The best-known titleholders include Black Tiger IV , Verne Gagne , Jushin Liger and Último Dragón . As is common in wrestling, the award is determined by a storyline .
The title has a very eventful history, which is mainly due to the territorial structure of the National Wrestling Association , in which not all territories were always agreed. So the title moved to Japan in 1983, while another version was fought out in the United States.
As the World Wrestling Federation began its triumphant advance, the title changed from the forerunner of the WCW to rather insignificant leagues and was discontinued in 1989.
In 1995 the title was revived by New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and awarded in Japan until 1997. Two years later he returned to the NWA, which today is hardly of any importance.
On July 12, 2011, Craig Classic was the holder of the title, but left the NWA in protest against the decision that The Sheik was stripped of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship . He took the title with him, but it was no longer recognized by the NWA. He then went to Pro Wrestling ZERO1 , who further recognized the title. Since then it has continued as the ZERO1 World Junior Heavyweight Championship , while the NWA continues to fight for its title.
