location
The 38.5 hectares large nature reserve Neuravensburger Weiher is one natural area to Westallgäuer hills . It is located about 8.6 kilometers southwest of downtown Wangen, south of the Neuravensburg district , at an altitude of 522 m above sea level. NN . The Neuravensburger Weiher, built around 1200, is an essential part of the area .
Protection purpose
The main protection purposes are maintenance and optimization
- of the pond with its silting zone as a breeding and resting place for rare and endangered bird species, some of which are of European importance
- the wet and wet meadows as well as the source areas and remnants of litter meadows as locations of rare or endangered plant species
- of the entire area as a habitat and retreat for a species-rich fauna and flora, as an important component in the habitat network of unused or only extensively used wetlands in the region, as a part of the landscape of particular beauty and as a cultural and historical testimony to earlier land use

Among the flora worthy of protection are the following species:
- Berchtold's dwarf pondweed ( Potamogeton berchtoldii )
- Yellow pond rose ( Nuphar lutea , Syn .: Nuphar luteum ), a member of the family of the water lily plants
- Great mermaid ( Najas marina ), a species of the frog-bite family
- Spreading water crowfoot ( Ranunculus circinatus ), a species of the buttercup family
- White water lily ( Nymphaea alba ), also from the water lily family
- Fragile candlestick algae ( Chara globularis ; Syn .: Chara fragilis ), a species from the candelabra family
fauna
In addition to various types of dragonflies , butterflies and grasshoppers , the fauna worthy of protection includes the following species:
- Birds : great crested grebe , teal , tufted duck , reed bunting , black-necked grebe , pochard , pond warbler and little grebe
