Březová (German Pirkenhammer , also hammer ) is a place in Okres Karlovy Vary ( Czech Republic ) with about 500 inhabitants.
Geographical location
The village is located in western Bohemia on the river Teplá ( Teplá ). To the west of the village is the Březová dam ( Pirkenhammer dam ).
history
The village emerged around the 17th century around the local mills and iron smelters. It was first mentioned in 1615 in the Petschauer Herrschaftsurbar . Hammer was part of the Funkenstein cadastre until 1713 . In the 18th century a paper mill and in 1803 a porcelain factory were founded.
According to the Munich Agreement , the place belonged from 1938 to 1945 to the district of Karlsbad in the Reichsgau Sudetenland , administrative district of Eger .
Mostly Germans lived in the village, most of whom were expelled after the Second World War . The place had no Czech name until 1945.
The place gained national fame through the Schützenmühle built in 1899 , a popular excursion destination for Karlovy Vary spa guests and the Pirkenhammer porcelain manufacturer .
