history

The first written mention of Otnawitz comes from the year 1325, when Johann von Luxemburg gave his loyal Kojata von Otnawitz 16 Hufen land between the Eger and the Tepla near Elbogen . From 1490, Egidius von Steinbach was the owner of Otovice. Under the Steinbachers, a manor was built as a fief of the royal Elbogen Castle . Subsequently, the village belonged to various nobles who were in the service of the castle.

From 1850 Ottowitz / Ottovice formed a political municipality in the Karlsbad district. In 1930 the community had 1,480 inhabitants. As a result of the Munich Agreement , Ottowitz was annexed to the German Reich in 1938. At that time there were five small brown coal mines in Ottowitz: the Jakobi-Zeche, Josefi-Zeche, Antoni-Eleonorenzeche, Caroli-Zeche and the Eleonorenzeche. In 1939, 1,445 people lived in Ottowitz. From 1938 to 1945 the municipality was part of the German district of Karlsbad and came back to Czechoslovakia after the end of the Second World War. From 1946 to 1960 Otovice belonged to the Okres Karlovy Vary-okolí and since 1961 again to the Okres Karlovy Vary. Between 1975 and 1990 Otovice was incorporated into Karlovy Vary .
