Smolné Pece ( German Pechöfen ) is a municipality in Karlovarský kraj in the Czech Republic .
geography
Smolné Pece is located ten kilometers northwest of Karlovy Vary and belongs to the Okres Karlovy Vary . The location is on the south side of the Ore Mountains on the left side of the Rolava valley on a saddle along the road to Fojtov. Hutnický vrch (637 m) rises to the east . The Karlovy Vary – Johanngeorgenstadt railway with the Nová Role zastávka stop runs in the Rolava Valley .
Neighboring towns are Pozorka in the north, Nový Fojtov and Fojtov in the north-east, Děpoltovice in the east, Mezirolí in the south-east, Nová Role and Hamry in the south, Rájec and Kobelec in the west and Suchá in the north-west.
history
The settlement of Pechöfen was first mentioned in 1847 in the topographical description of the Elbogen district by Johann Gottfried Sommer . Its residents lived from charcoal burning and pitch production . Since 1872 the place in the political district of Neudek was called a village. The Chodau – Neudek local railway was established in 1881 ; The Hammerhäuser train station was in the valley. The line became part of the Karlsbad – Johanngeorgenstadt railway in 1899 . Pechhöfen was parish after Tüppelsgrün , politically it was part of Voigtsgrün (Fojtov).
Today tourism plays a major role in the place; many houses serve as vacation homes.

Note
In both German and Czech writings, the place is very often confused with the much older and no longer existing Smolné Pece ( Pechöfen ) near Potůčky , which was in the same district and was parish to the mountain town of Platten . Some of the information on the municipality's website also refers to the wrong place.
